Competence Centre Mining & Mineral Resources

The Competence Centre for Mining and Mineral Resources (CCMMR) was commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and established by the Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAGCC).

The CCMMR is aligned with the Federal Republic of Germany's resource strategy and focuses on Southern African markets with prominent mining features. These markets will contribute to the security and diversity of the German resource supply and serve as outlets for German technology, products, and services.  

 

The objectives of CCMMR are: 

  • To create market transparency, promote cooperation and communication; 
  • To market and promote German technologies in the SADC region; 
  • To provide market entry services to German companies interested in the SADC region 

AfricaMaVal Project 

AfricaMaVal aims to develop EU-Africa partnerships ensuring responsible sourcing of mineral resources for the European industry and investment opportunities while providing for sustainable local co-development in the best Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) conditions and creating a long-term business environment for European and African companies. 

 

The CCMR was responsible for compiling Country Profiles on the National Regulatory Framework and Good Governance for 54 countries in Africa as part of Work Package 7 – Responsible Investment Opportunities. The report was published on the AfricaMaVal project platform in August 2024, aimed at supporting investment decisions in critical raw material value chains in Africa.

Working Group Mining

The Competence Centre for Mining & Mineral Resources (CCMMR) is the facilitator of the working group mining consisting of relevant mining industry stakeholders. This working group aims to be a link between AHK member companies, mining industry bodies, universities and government representatives to ensure that key decision-makers and industry are aligned to ascertain a sustainable mining industry on one central platform.

It aimed to provide insights into the South African battery sector and discuss collaboration opportunities along with specific industry needs between German companies and South African suppliers. This event took place on 26 November 2024 at the SAGCC office in Johannesburg.

The Competence Centre Mining and Mineral Resources hosted an exclusive mining networking event in partnership with the Mining Industry Association of Southern Africa (MIASA), the Minerals Council South Africa, and the Mandela Mining Precinct on 11 September 2024 at Southern Sun Sandton, Johannesburg.
