Members of the AHK Southern Africa have the opportunity to participate in exclusive events.

Members also have the opportunity to support the AHK Southern Africa as partners and have a visual presence on the AHK's media and advertising channels and events.

Network

The AHK Southern Africa is part of the international network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK) with 150 offices in 93 countries. Why should my company become a member of the SAGCC?

Membership gives access to business networks, market insights, advocacy, and services that support trade and investment between Southern Africa and Germany.

Who can apply for membership?

Membership is open to companies of all sizes and industries that are active in or interested in the Southern African–German business community.

What types of membership are available?

The Chamber offers different membership categories tailored to company size.

Are individuals able to join the Chamber?

Membership is primarily aimed at companies and organisations. Individual membership is not offered.

How much are the membership fees?

Membership fees are based on the company size and chosen membership category. A fee structure is available further below.

Does membership include access to paid services?

Yes. Members receive discounted rates for services such as Business Partner Searches, Address Searches, Market Analysis, Surveys and Interviews, Company Verification, and Trade Fair Business Trips. View the page HERE.

How often does the Chamber host events?

Events take place throughout the year, including business dialogues, sector-specific roundtables, delegation visits, and networking functions.

Can non-members attend events?

Some events are open to non-members, while others are exclusive to members. Members enjoy preferential access and rates.

Can my company advertise or promote through the Chamber?

Yes. Members benefit from visibility opportunities such as sponsorships, event participation, and features in Chamber communications.

How does the Chamber support German companies entering Southern Africa?

We provide market entry consulting, partner searches, legal and tax guidance referrals, and networking opportunities with local businesses and institutions. How do I apply for membership?

How long does the membership approval process take?

Once the application is submitted, approval usually takes one to four weeks depending on the vetting process.

Do you only represent specific industries?

No. Our membership spans across all industries. We do, however, have Competence Centres that focus on key industries where German companies are most active in the region.

Can non-German companies apply for membership?

Yes. We welcome non-German companies to the Southern African–German business community. Applicants will need to provide information on their active participation within this community and motivation to join.

Where are your offices located?

Our head office is in Johannesburg. We also have offices in Cape Town and Durban, with consultants based in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Frankfurt. In other countries, we work closely with partner organisations.

Do you only work with large corporations?

No. We support businesses of all sizes, from multinational companies to small and medium-sized enterprises.

Where are your headquarters located?

Which countries do you represent?

The AHK Southern Africa represents 12 countries in the region: South Africa, Botswana, DR Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. We also represent three German foreign trade institutions: the Bavarian Representative Office in South Africa, the Representative Office of the State Development Corporation of Thuringia, and the Economic Representative Office of Baden-Württemberg in South Africa and the SADC region.

The annual membership fee is determined by the General Assembly. Effective from January 2024:

All fees include 15% VAT.

Pro-rata Membership Fee in the Year of Entry:

  • Registration from 01 April: 75% of respective annual membership fee plus R 250,-- registration fee.
  • Registration from 01 July: 50% of respective annual membership fee plus R 250,-- registration fee.
  • Registration from 01 October: Free membership until December, but the full fee plus R 250.- registration fee should be paid for the following year upon joining.
