The 2026 findings point to cautious optimism, with many companies expecting stable or growing revenues over the next year. South Africa remains the regional anchor, while markets such as Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana are gaining relevance, particularly in mining, energy, infrastructure, and logistics. Investment remains largely conservative, with companies prioritising maintenance over expansion.

Policy and regulatory uncertainty continues to be the main constraint on business activity, alongside skills shortages and infrastructure challenges. Despite this, German companies reaffirm their long-term commitment to South Africa and the region, viewing Southern Africa as a strategic platform for regional engagement.
