The National TVET Excellence Awards South Africa 2026 has been established to recognise and celebrate the individuals and organisations driving excellence in vocational and occupational training. More than an awards programme, it is a platform to showcase best practice, strengthen industry collaboration and inspire continuous improvement.
For the first time, a national awards programme formally recognises the collective contribution of the Industry-TVET ecosystem that drives successful vocational and occupational training. While many awards focus on institutions or individuals, the 2026 National TVET Excellence Awards recognises the employers, industry professionals, workplace mentors, training partners and TVET lecturers whose collaboration creates pathways to employment and economic participation.

Building on More Than a Decade of South Africa-Germany Cooperation
The initiative builds on a strong foundation of cooperation in vocational education and training between South Africa and Germany. The partnership between the German Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ) and the South African Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) dates back to 2013. This bilateral cooperation has supported knowledge exchange, policy dialogue, institutional partnerships and industry-led learning approaches that strengthen vocational education and training systems.
Over more than a decade, this collaboration has strengthened links between education and the world of work, advancing industry-relevant skills development and promoting international best practice in vocational training. Funded by the BMBFSFJ and supported by leading corporate and institutional partners, the Awards represent a natural extension of this long-standing cooperation by creating a platform to recognise excellence, celebrate success and inspire future collaboration across the TVET and occupational training landscape.
Strengthening the Occupational Training Model
