DRC Delegation in Johannesburg, funded by the GIZ

24.07.2023

From 17.07 – 22.07.23, the SAGCC, in cooperation with the GIZ DRC Office, organised and hosted a delegation of decision-makers from the DRC to Johannesburg, South Africa.  The delegation included his Majesty, the Grand Chief of Kaponda, the President of the Chamber of Mines, Mr. Louis Watum, Vice President of FEC (Congolese Chamber of Enterprises), Mr. Eric Monga, and Madame Lucie Mujinga, Mayor of the Municipality Ruashi, amongst others.

Day 1, included an internal workshop as well as a small networking event. The central question being discussed was, ‘How can our SAGCC collaborate with the Congolese Chamber of Commerce (FEC) and other institutions to create better chances for community development and business opportunities in the DRC?’

Sandton offered the perfect backdrop for our peer exchange workshop on day 2, held in cooperation with the City of Johannesburg, the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency, and the CSIR. During this workshop, the members of the delegation had the opportunity to exchange with these cooperation partners on topics of strategy and policy around community development, destination marketing, and investment promotion.

Our amazing partners and member companies in the mining, water, energy, and agriculture sectors were highlighted on day 3 during our various company visits to wec projects, ifm, Zest Weg Group, Schauenburg Systems, and KSB Pumps and Valves.

Thank you to all companies involved for taking the time to host the delegation! The participants were very impressed with all the facilities and products.

The largest carrot farm in southern Africa, Greenway Farms / Rugani Juice, was visited by the Delegation on the last day of the trip. An inspirational morning, involving an open discussion, with co-founder Mr. Vito Rugani, on the origins of the farm and its recipe for success, was followed by a tour of the processing and juicing facilities. This farm not only harvests and processes 300t of carrots a day but also produces 150,000l of freshly juiced sugar and preservative-free vegetable juices monthly.

To round off the week, the SAGCC hosted a networking event for the delegation with our member companies. Thank you to all who attended!
