From 19 to 23 May 2025, the Competence Centre for Mining and Mineral Resources, with the support of Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft and VDMA Mining and Minerals, led a German business delegation to Zambia, focusing on opportunities in the mining sector. The programme kicked off in Lusaka with briefings from the Ambassador of the German Embassy to Zambia, H.E. Anne Wagner-Michell, the EU Delegation to Zambia and DEG Impulse, highlighting Zambia's political and economic landscape and EU support instruments.

Following a networking reception at the German Embassy with the opening delivered by Dr. Hapenga Kabeta, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development, the delegation of 20 travelled to the Copperbelt in Kitwe, where the German-Zambian Mining Symposium served as the focal point. With over 80 participants in attendance, the event created a vibrant space for meaningful dialogue, exploring collaboration, and showcasing Zambia’s growing potential as a mining investment destination.

The symposium featured addresses from the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development, Zambia Chamber of Mines, Zambia Chamber of Commerce & Industry and DEG Impulse, followed by company pitches and B2B meetings.

The delegation also had mine visits to Mopani Copper Mine in Mufulira and Konkola Copper Mine in Chililabombe, which offered German companies the opportunity to witness the impressive operations and showcase their technologies to the Zambian stakeholders.
