South Africa is an important location for our members with ca. more than 600.000 produced vehicles in 2024. Over 50 per cent of all vehicles produced on the African continent come from South Africa. The South African automotive industry is heavily export-orientated and closely integrated into global supply chains. In 2023, two thirds of all vehicles produced were exported. The most important target region is Europe, but also the US. Germany is both South Africa's largest buyer of vehicles and its most important supplier of components.
June 2025 marks 5 years of successful cooperation between the VDA and its pan-African partner association the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM).
At the event we would like to take a closer look at the current situation of the automotive industry in South Africa, the perspectives for the industry on the African continent and current geopolitical challenges for our members.
