The Climate and Environment (CC:CE) serves as an information, networking and consulting platform for the economy with a focus on the water, waste, and energy nexus.

The CC:CE supports the shift towards a low-carbon, circular economy  and the uptake of climate-friendly, resource efficient technologies – in particular in the area of renewable energy, energy efficiency, water and waste management, and related services – in the markets of the SADC region. We aim to promote bilateral exchange of technology and know-how between Germany and southern Africa.

The objectives of the CC:CE are to:

  • Conduct market analyses and provide market information
  • Support companies in market entry and market expansion
  • Provide advisory services geared towards sustainable and green technology market development
  • Represent the environmental technology sector, and provide a network and cooperation platform

To achieve the objectives listed above, we continuously expand our international network in the public and private sectors. Making use of these networks, the CC:CE offers various services to the private sector, including but not limited to, market studies, delegations, business-to-business matchmaking and information events. Through our activities, we endeavour to increase visibility of environmental technologies and connect technology providers with off-takers and implementation partners.

GIZ has created a LinkedIn GroupGreen Hydrogen South Africa (GHSA). The purpose of this group is to foster cooperation among key decision makers, role players and organizations in the green hydrogen sector in South Africa. We would encourage all participants to exchange ideas, network, share industry updates on the green hydrogen economy and build on the existing available information.

Experts in the fields of water, waste and energy implement projects and activities:

Green Hydrogen Hub Namibia & South Africa – Backing the implementation of the international Hydrogen Ramp-Up Programme H2Uppp

H2-Uppp supports early project development for green hydrogen and Power-to-X applications outside of Europe in cooperation with the private sector

In order to decarbonise their economies and to achieve the climate change objectives in the Paris Agreement, many countries throughout the world are turning to green hydrogen (H2) and its derivatives. In particular, South Africa and Namibia are well suited to produce green H2 and derivatives in large quantities – for export, as well as for own use.

However, market growth in emerging economies requires targeted support to establish economic pathways for production and use, identify potential projects and develop business models. H2Uppp aims to provide such support through partnerships with businesses.

In Namibia and South Africa, the focus of H2Uppp is on the support of early-stage private sector H2 projects through public-private partnerships, with H2Uppp acting as the public partner.

H2Uppp activities are financed by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs & Climate Action (BMWK), and implemented by GIZ, Germany’s main development agency.

The Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce & Industry supports the implementation of H2Uppp in Namibia and South Africa via its Competence Centre Climate & Environment (CC:CE), acting as a H2 Hub.

Please do not hesitate to contact the CC:CE for further information.
