About the event:

South African organisations have been preparing to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPI) for some time.  If you have a business in the European Union, you may already have been dealing with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as well. The GDPR is the European Union’s new privacy law that came into effect on 25 May 2018.

But did you know that the GDPR may apply to your South African business as well?

In this session, we will discuss the extra-territorial application of the GDPR, how it compares with POPI and what organisations need to do to comply.

Rohan Isaacs and Kerri Crawford are from the technology & privacy team at Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa. They act for a wide range of clients in the technology field, advising on outsourcing, system implementation, privacy, regulatory and procurement issues. They are focused on ways in which lawyers can innovate their service delivery to clients and have, for example developed a virtual privacy lawyer. They regularly speak and write about hot topics like artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies and blockchain..
