The Commercial Advancement Training Scheme C.A.T.S has close links with both the Southern African and German companies nationwide and has formulated training programmes collaborated with the current Sector Education Training Authority SETA curriculum to offer unique training methods informed by the specific training needs of the member companies and sponsors.

All businesses have a unique skill set requirement and this is catered for by the Commercial Advancement Training Scheme C.A.T.S founded by the Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry as a section 21 company, and has been operating in South Africa since 1985.

The programme was adapted from the German Dual System, and it integrates theoretical learning with practical experience within the workplace.

This 2 year vocational training program leads to a certification of competency in Business Administration that is accepted and recognised by the European Union. A second Certificate in “Office Administration” (learnership) is issued by FASSET is quality assured by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers ICB and is imbedded in the C.A.T.S qualification.

How do we select?

Admission requirements: NSC (National Certificate) with Mathematics & English passed with a rating of 4 OR Matriculation exemptions with at least E (40%) for Higher Grade Mathematics & English or at least D (50%) for Standard Grade Mathematics & English

Application Process at C.A.T.S

Applicants are then invited to a selection procedure which includes the following:

  1.  An introduction to CATS,
  2.  Written literacy and numeric tests,
  3.  Interviews conducted by representatives from CATS and the participating companies.

Successful applicants are selected to form a pool of potential CATS students, from which companies and organisations can select candidates. The number of people selected depends on the availability of training places.

Accreditation and Registration

CATS will issue to the learner a International Diploma in Business Administration as well as junior Office Administration Certificate underwritten by the DIHK and the Institute of Certified Bookkeeping respectively.
