Johannesburg, 12. – 14. September 2017 - A Zambian business delegation of representatives from the country’s water sector visited this year’s IFAT Africa, the leading trade fair for water, sewage, refuse and recycling. Four Zambian delegates went on to receive VIP Invitations from the trade fair organiser Messe München.

The Zambia delegation included:

  • Mr Kelvin Chitumbo – Managing Director – National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NAWASCO)
  • Mr. John Msimuko – Director General - Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA)
  • Mr Jilly Chiyombwe - Director Infrastructure – Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC)
  • Mr Alexander Chomba - Regulation and Compliance Manager - Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA)

The Lusaka Office of the Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry facilitated the visit of the Zambian delegates and organised meetings with 40 German exhibitors at the Trade Fair. The Zambian delegates presented the work of their institutions at a roundtable discussion, which took place as part of the support programme of IFAT Africa.

“We are currently seeing an increased interest in the Zambian market across all sectors. The interest of the German exhibitors at the IFAT Africa underlines the attractiveness of Zambia as a business destination. In our meetings, we learned that many of the exhibiting companies already do business in Zambia. On that basis, we want to initiate more bilateral projects.” said Johannes Kurt, the Representative of the Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Zambia, who accompanied the delegation to Johannesburg.

From January 22nd to 26th 2018, the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry will lead a market exploration delegation to Zambia that will look into business opportunities in the field of water management. The five-day delegation aims to introduce the Zambian market and the water management industry to (primarily) German small and medium-sized companies (SMEs), self-employers, freelancers, and business-related service providers. Practical information will be provided by combining company visits, seminars, workshops, and meetings with local institutions as well as site visits in Lusaka and the Copperbelt area. The delegation is intended to support German companies in establishing contacts as well as developing joint projects.

In June this year, the German-Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the 1st German-Zambian Business Forum in Lusaka, which attracted 30 German companies and 150 participants in total.
