Thuringia Delegation Visit to Namibia

Day 1- 04 February 2018

The SA-German Chamber is facilitating the visit of The Free State of Thuringia Government delegation led by the Honourable Minister of Economic Affairs, Science and Digital Society, Hon. Wolfgang Tiefensee at the Inauguration of the Polycare Research Technology Factory in Namibia.

Also in attendance was His Excellency-The Vice President of Namibia,Dr. Nangolo Mbumba and Dr. Gerhard Dust- Director of Polycare Namibia. The assembly plant was developed as a concept for simple housing solutions and is considered low-cost, strong, durable and environmentally friendly with reusable concrete blocks mainly consisting of 87% sand.

Day 2- 05 February 2018

Day 2 of The Free State of Thuringia Government delegations visit in Namibia, accompanied by The SA-German Chamber was rather eventful.

The delegation, led by the Honourable Minister of Economic Affairs, Science and Digital Society, Hon. Wolfgang Tiefensee started off their day with a meeting with the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit). This was followed by a meeting with officials at the Namibia University of Science & Technology and a tour at Myeisha Namibia; a social entrepreneurship organisation that upskills and empowers Namibian women with sowing skills in order to create beautiful and unique leather handbags. Later in the day the delegation visited the Namibian Breweries and the Namibian Training Authorities. The day was nicely wrapped up with a networking dinner at the Heinitzburg in Windhoek.

Day 3- 06 February 2019

The highlight of Day 3 of The Free State of Thuringia Government delegation visit in Namibia was a tour of the Peugeot Opel Assembly Namibia (POAN) in Walvis Bay. The plant was inaugurated on 5 December 2018 by the President of Namibia, His Excellency Dr. Hage Geingob.

The delegation also made a special stop at the Young Africa Solar Academy- a project that is managed in cooperation with the Thuringia company, Maxx Solar. The Academy is a non-profit training centre for solar power that was established in 2011 by the German training institute DGS SolarSchool Thuringia, with financial support from maxx | solar energy (Pty) Ltd.

Day 4 -  06 February 2019

The Free State of Thuringia Government delegation is in Swakpomund, this morning at a 'Business Breakfast' meeting. They are joined by various local government and business representatives.

The delegation visit is part of its mission to strengthen economic relations with the Namibian government.
