Johannesburg, 27 March 2018 – Members of both the British Chamber of Business in South Africa and the Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry came together at the SAGCC’s head office in Johannesburg on a mild March morning for a joint breakfast event for their respective members. Members were invited to build and strengthen their respective networks among the equally well-established business communities of these two European powerhouses over a light breakfast.

Mr Matthias Boddenberg, CEO of the SAGCC, welcomed guests and spoke on the importance of Chambers of Commerce working in a closer capacity to better facilitate and support bilateral relations. Mr David Dawson, CEO of the British Chamber of Business in South Africa, echoed these sentiments and encouraged guests to take advantage of  building their networks at events like this, going on to explain the process of the “speed-networking” sessions that would take place a little later. Among the concerns facing businesses from both Germany and Great Britain (and certainly many other European countries) operating in South Africa are issues such as the South African government’s proposal for land expropriation without compensation as well as legislation around visas and other trade and immigration concerns.

After the meal, guests of each Chamber were encouraged to introduce themselves or get to know members from the other. When Mr Dawson gave the word, guests would break away from one conversation to begin another with another guest, whom they had not met before. Guests enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere as well as the opportunity to broaden their respective networks.

This event is intended to be the first of many joint events between the SAGCC and other Chambers of Commerce to generate opportunities for cooperation between local Chambers of Commerce and strengthen the voices of foreign investors in the arena of South African trade legislation.
