Seminar: How to build resilience into your business?

Johannesburg, 21 August 2018 – Open your local newspaper or industry-relevant B2B publication on any given day and you may be blown away by how easily this new legislation or that natural disaster just put a hole in your business prospects. Whether yours is a massive, industry-cornering enterprise or a young, but fast-growing, SME, you must be as resilient as your environment is unpredictable, for your business to reach its goals.

The Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a seminar around this issue, which was presented by AURIK Enterprise Development. Guests were invited to learn about what leaders have to consider in order for their business, not simply to survive, but thrive in the face of South Africa’s ever-changing market environment and build their business into “an Asset of Value”.

That may sound like a tall order, but Pavlo Phitidis, the founder of AURIK Business Accelerator, proved it could be done. Through a series of case studies, Mr Phitidis illustrated how product offerings are the result of mindset. By always being aware of how your business can be disrupted by your competition, evolving technologies, and socio-political, while also recognising and building onto the value of your assets, you determine whether your company is destined for closure, for sale, or growth and success that lasts. Mr Phitidis stressed the importance of working in your business as well as on it – a good leader spends a great deal of time doing both.

During the Q and A at the end of Mr Phitidis’s seminar, there were plenty of questions to go around, some pertaining to the presentation and others querying Mr Phitidis’s opinion on current events and what can be done to strengthen South African businesses in those particular instances. Attendees left with insights, which were more than mere motivation; many felt they now had very practical steps that could certianly benefit their businesses going forward.
