Schauenburg Systems, as part of the Schauenburg International–Africa Group, acknowledges Corporate Social Responsibility as an important component of its corporate citizenship and as such believes in the sustainable development of previously disadvantaged individuals and communities in South Africa. Their main focus is on projects and initiatives in the areas of education, training and skills development.

This year, Schauenburg Systems approached Cresslawn Primary School, situated in Kempton Park to assist with their skills development needs. After discussions with the school principal, Mrs. Marilyn Louw, Schauenburg agreed to assist the school with the following project for children with Severe Intellectual Disabilities.

Schauenburg Systems embarked on fully funding the building of two classrooms at Cresslawn Primary School. The project was initiated in July 2017 and the classrooms were completed at the end of November 2017. The finished structure consists of two fully equipped classrooms with adequate storage space, as well as a central bathroom for the children situated in this part of the school, which would save them from walking to another part of the school.

Cresslawn Primary School, which is in in close proximity of our Head Office and manufacturing facility, is a public school based in the suburb of Cresslawn, Kempton Park. Many of their learners come from Tembisa. In the past 8 years the school has been able to start three classes for learners with Special Education Needs. The school has also accepted children who have Severe Intellectual Disabilities (SID). They currently have 9 such children in the school and they were approached by the District Office of the Gauteng Department of Education about the possibility of starting an SID class. This is a first for any Primary school. Their biggest need for the school was to have classrooms built to accommodate these learners, and this is where Schauenburg Systems stepped up to the plate to provide the much-needed classrooms.

Chantal Churchill, Corporate Communications Manager at Schauenburg expressed her thoughts regarding the project, “We were very privileged to be able to establish two classrooms for these children with special needs. It’s a sustainable project, that will provide children in our community with the most valuable asset they can acquire, a good education.”

Dieter Kovar, CEO of the Schauenburg International – Africa Group, expressed his thoughts about skills shortages, “Education and Training is one of our most important pillars in our company policy. I regard it as an obligation of our management towards our staff. By building these classrooms for the school, which is only 2km away from our manufacturing facility and head office, we can further improve the community in which our organization operates.”

The Schauenburg Group in South Africa is committed to transformation and regards Corporate Social Responsibility as a component of its business practice, ensuring sustainable success. The Schauenburg International – Africa Group also established the Schauenburg Education Trust in 2015, that was created to participate in the socioeconomic transformation of South Africa, by providing young black students with the opportunity to further their studies in the fields of Economics, Electronics and Engineering by means of educational bursaries.
