The SA-German Chamber of Commerce & Industry had the pleasure to organise a conference on the opportunities for energy efficiency in Namibia on the 24th October in Windhoek.

The conference, jointly organised with Renewable Energy Academy AG (RENAC) and the Namibian Manufacturers Association (NMA), was part of the Energy Solutions Initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economics Affairs and Energy (BMWi).

The well attended conference highlighted the cost-saving potential of energy efficiency, presented showcases and lessons learned from Germany and South Africa, as well as introduced technologies to realise efficiency gains in industry and commercial buildings. More than 100 Namibian representatives from the private sector, business associations and public institutions participated in the conference and the corresponding discussions.

The conference was accompanied by a business delegation from Germany, comprising German energy efficiency technology and services providers. The German delegates had more than 50 B2B-meetings in the days following the conference. In almost every meeting viable opportunities for energy efficiency activities were identified – whereas most discussed projects indicated attractive amortisation rates.

With the Namibian market being at the an early stage concerning energy efficiency, and the medium-term rise of energy and electricity prices, the financially viable opportunities for energy efficiency can be expected to only increase further.

The team of the Sa-German Chamber of Commerce & Industry would like to express their gratitude to everyone who participated in the conference and the organisation of the delegation trip. In particular we would to thank the Namibian businesses for their interest in B2B meetings with our German delegates.

Please do not hesitate to contact us, if you have any queries concerning the realisation of energy efficiency improvements in Namibia and the SADC region.
