During the AGM, the President announced two major developments in terms of the Chamber’s activities in the area of vocational training:

In future, the Commercial Advancement Training Scheme (CATS) will be managed by the Chamber’s Department for Training and CSR and become an integral part of the Chamber in order to support the further expansion of training activities.
The Chamber will establish a formal working group on Education and Training to coordinate the existing activities and manage the expansion into further areas of technical vocational training.

In line with the regional activities of the Chamber, our Zambia Branch, in cooperation with the Africa Association (Afrika Verein), organised the 1st German - Zambian Business Forum at the end of June.

Last but not least:
Please note that the Annual Event of the Chamber, to be held on October 6 at 6.00 for 6.30 p.m., will have a different focus this year. This year’s event will be less formal and aimed at entertaining by offering a variety of interactive activities and music. Prepare for something entirely unusual, unexpected, unorthodox… Unplugged! (Details will follow).

Nspire Strategic and Management Solutions
How to win the war for talent

Finding, developing, and retaining talent is hard — so much so that the business press refers to a “war” for talent.

As with any war, you need to ensure that you have a better arsenal and strategy that will make you stronger than your opponent, or competition.

Increasing your spend on traditional perks is no longer a strategy that wins the war for talent. You need to look deeper into the real needs and aspirations of the modern and fast-paced employee. The world has become smaller and you are no longer competing with local businesses only. It is therefore of utmost importance that your offering will stand up to even international factors.

On our website we discuss one strategy that often wins the war for talent. We would like to encourage you to take advantage of this by just clicking here to learn more.

Tennelli Training:  Root Cause Analysis and Incident Investigation

Technical and Quality related root cause analyses (RCA) and incident investigations are required to maintain and improve the quality of the products and services rendered, and for the enhancement of safety in the workplace.

RCA is a reactive method to identify both the obvious and the underlying causes of a non-conformance or incident so that specific solutions can be implemented. A complete RCA consists of a clear definition of the problem, a thorough analysis supported by evidence, a specific corrective action plan for implementing the solutions and monitoring the effectiveness of those corrective actions.

The purpose of the two-day program is to offer proven RCA and incident investigation techniques to enable course delegates to accurately establish the causal factors that led to a non-conformance or incident, and to recommend appropriate preventive and corrective actions.

Who should attend?

  • SHEQ Managers
  • Quality Assurance Managers and Quality Engineers
  • Quality Auditors
  • Production, Manufacturing and Maintenance Engineers

The Salvation Army

Longevity - The Salvation Army

They say time flies when you’re having fun, but the reality is that in today’s world so many organisations are transient, coming and going without anybody noticing their passage. The Salvation Army, on the other hand, has been around for more than 150 years – 152 this year to be precise. That’s more than a century and a half of caring for the needy, the destitute, the homeless, and those members of society that we often pretend don’t exist.

Our management structure, as our name suggests, is somewhat militaristic in nature, although instead of shooting people we save them. The highest rank is the General, who is based at the heart of The Salvation Army at the International Head Quarters. The General appoints each and every single Territorial Commander within our organisation’s 128 countries globally.

What have we done right for the past 150 years, and perhaps more importantly, will we survive another 150 in the future?

We certainly do believe that we will and with your help and support we will be stronger each and every day.  www.salvationarmy.org.za

Due to aging parents I have decided to move back to Johannesburg. After being aboard for 6 years and holding positions in Top Management from my time in South Africa I am currently seeking Senior Financial positions.

My proven track record and rapid growth is a testimony to the faith organisations have bestowed on my leadership skills, strategic thinking and team building capabilities apart from sound knowledge in global Accounting Standards, financial risk management, tax planning and international statutory and compliance standards.

Kinder in Kulturen und Sprachen
KIKUS (which stands for ‘Kinder in Kulturen und Sprachen’ – Children in different Cultures and Languages) is a method for teaching a second language to children between the ages of 3 and 10.  It can be used to teach ANY language, since it does not depend on written material at all.

We have a group of dedicated and qualified KIKUS Course Leaders in Cape Town.  KIKUS is used in the German Kindergartens to teach German and Xhosa, but we have also started a project to help children from disadvantaged communities to learn English before they enter school.

Since we believe that improving language skills at a very young age will have a positive effect on South African learners’ achievements later on in their school careers, we would really like to continue with this project, but are looking for more funding to do so.

The main aim would be to train teachers in the KIKUS Method and to introduce our ideas on how to combine KIKUS with scientific experiments at a young age (a subject on which my colleague Petra and I have recently written a book).

Quaker Peace Center

Together we can build a more peaceful society in South Africa.

Economic growth and development
depend on a peaceful and safe environment. Therefore, the Quaker Foundation in Berlin, Germany, supports the Quaker Peace Center in Capetown, South Africa. Since the early 1980s the Peace Center has been fostering programs for anti-violence and peaceful behaviour, especially for young people.

In order to continue these vital programs in the future, we urgently need the financial support of business partners. Please help us to bring peace to thousands of lives.

“Do good and talk about it”
